Comparative Study on the Organic Solvent of IrO2–Ionomer Inks used for Spray Coating of Anode for Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

Currently, spray coating has attracted interest in the mass production of anode catalyst layers for proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). The solvent ink is a critical factor dispersion ink, microstructure layer, and PEMWE performance. Herein, various pure organic solvents were examined as substitute conventional isopropanol-deionized (IPA-DIW) mixture solvent. Among polar that exhibited better IrO2 over nonpolar solvents, 2-butanol (2-BuOH) was selected suitable candidate. single cells fabricated using 2-BuOH at ionomer contents, nozzle types, drying temperatures, their performance compared to IPA-DIW mixture. with showed good performances comparable case highly durable under accelerated degradation tests.
